Stunna Mane

BIOGRAPHY

Marcus Alyn Buck AKA “Stunna Mane”

                    Born: February 14, 1980

                    Hometown: Flora, MS

Stunna Mane (Marcus Alyn Buck) spent most of his life living in Flora, MS, his ambition has always transcended
the slow pace of the country. Growing up as a talented athlete, he had dreams of playing in the NBA until a knee
injury in high school derailed those plans. Music wasn't his first love but he was always a fan, counting Tupac,
Biggie Smalls, UGK, Scarface, and Project Pat as among his favorite artists in the industry.
Stunna Mane's initial foray into music was not as a performer but as a manager. He met a local rapper and was set
to manage his career but creative differences between the two caused them to part ways. Rather than sell all of his
recording equipment, Stunna decided to try his hand at rapping and became hooked. He developed a passion for
storytelling and the combination of his life experiences with immense charisma proved to be a winning formula.

The first song Stunna Mane wrote was a response to the trend of gimmicky dances and bubblegum pop songs flooding the rap industry. "Drunk Gorilla is a song that dudes in the club can dance to without feeling like sissies," Stunna was quoted as saying. After the recording, Stunna sent the song to DJ Bobby

Jones in the Delta. "Drunk Gorilla" became a smash there and the legend was born. The ensuing buzz led to numerous other DJs and internet radio stations taking notice. Soon "Drunk Gorilla" was getting spins on radio stations in Memphis, Atlanta, Phoenix, and even as far away as Canada and Brazil. This was undoubtedly aided by the recording and release of the "Drunk Gorilla" remix featuring Project Pat of ThreeSix Mafia fame and Benz. Stunna Mane notes that DJ Spin Dat at 97.7 was the first Jackson DJ to start playing his music.

Not wanting to have the ladies feeling left out, Stunna's follow-up to "Drunk Gorilla" was a track called "Pretty Girls". This song only intensified the rapper's already prolific reputation as a ladies' man. Armed with a (mostly female) following on Twitter and Facebook, Stunna Mane continues to be an emerging internet sensation. Though he is relatively new to the rap game, his work ethic and level of dedication surpass that of many industry veterans. His honesty and willingness to grind have earned him accolades and appearances on a host of mixtapes even though he has yet to release his highly anticipated "Rookie Season" mixtape.

The founder and CEO of So Damn Pretty Entertainment was recently nominated for two Jackson Music Awards (male hip-hop artist of the year and hip-hop entertainer of the year). This is quite an achievement for an artist with less than two years of experience under his belt. Other notable songs by Stunna Mane include "Throw Yo Hood Up" featuring Fiend and Mr. Serv-On, "Box Chevy Bitch" featuring Mz Mack (the First Lady of SDP Entertainment) and "Pussy Nigga Swang" featuring Young Legend and Mz Mack. Stunna Mane is definitely doing his part to show that Mississippi is a force to be reckoned with in the hip-hop scene. "Drunk Gorilla" is more than a song, it's a movement.

Purps Place Interview #2 Gus

It's time for the second installment of Purp's Place Interviews. Today we have Gus, A producer out of Greece

DJ Purp: How are you doing today?
Gus: I’m cool  :)

DJ Purp: First tell us a little bit about yourself.
Gus: I’m a beatmaker from Greece. I have released 3 mixtapes which contained beats of mine featuring various mcs and groups from all over the world. Also, I have released 2 charity hip hop compilations (in 2007 and in 2010) with the title: Hip Hop in Greece. These compilations have joints from mcs/groups all over Greece except Athens and Thessaloniki (the 2 biggest towns in Greece), in order to promote groups from province. The donations from these cds went to who people suffered from fire [Peloponissos (Greece), summer 2007] and to Haiti (2010).

DJ Purp: So my first question is, Who is your biggest influence and why?
Gus: I get influenced by anything around me, my life, my parents, my friends etc… Musically I got influenced by producers such as Scott Storch, Alchemist, Dj Premier, Timballand, Pete Rock, RZA and from Greek producers: Empne, Dj Alx, Sinis, Zetel and other…

DJ Purp: How and When did you get started in production?
Gus: I started at 2004-2005 when I discovered a Greek instrumental album from a dj named E.I liked his sound and then I started listening instrumentals from producers like Scott Storch, Alchemist, Dj Premier, Pete Rock and RZA. Then I found a cd of a beatmaking program and I reached for tutorials. So that's how I started.

DJ Purp: Everyone has a favorite record that they listen to nonstop still. Whats your?
Gus: I haven’t got only one! Some of my favorite records are: Eminem show, Doggystyle, The Documentary, Doctor's Advocate, Don Cartagena, A Brand You Can Trust and some other Greek stuff

DJ Purp: Are there any projects your working on?
Gus: Now I am working on my first official cd (Road to America). It will be an album featuring groups and mcs around America. I have some really dope mcs on it, so look out for it, coming soon!

DJ Purp: Do you have a favorite project you did?
Gus: I like almost all of my projects, but I really love my new upcoming cd!
I am working on it about 2 years and I proud of it!

DJ Purp: Name 3 people you want to work with and why.
Gus: - Eminem, he is one of my favorite mcs. The Eminem Show is one of my favorite
 - Dj Premier, he is really dope! He makes dope beats and that why he is one of my favorite producers.
-Lil Jon, he is crazy and he knows how to party! :)

DJ Purp: Where can the people reading this interview check out or download some of your music?
Gus: People may check out my work from my myspace profile , also I’ve got a twitter (http://twitter.com/Gus_Productions) and a facebook profile.

DJ Purp: Well im all the way here in Florida so im curious, hows the music scene in Greece?
Gus: The hip hop scene in Greece is like America's (proportionally to our population). We have some great mcs with skills, dope beatmakers and a few good Djs but we both have wacks! We are only lacking of Djs. We haven't got many turntablists!

DJ Purp: What advice would you give people just getting ready to start making beats and producing from home?
Gus: They must love what they are doing. Also, beatmaking helps you to learn more about music. You may listen songs from other countries in order to take a sample and that’s how you improve your music knowledge!

DJ Purp: Is there anything you would like to say to the viewers out there?
Gus: Check out my latest mixtape “Hot 18” and stay tuned for my new street Lp, Road to America.

DJ Purp: Last but not least, I gotta ask everyone this lol. What do you think of purpsplace.blogspot.com?
Gus: I like it! It’s an upcoming blog that I found it interested, so keep up the good work!

DJ Purp: Thanks for joining us and taking part in the 2nd Purps Place Interview.
Gus: Peace

DJ Purp Interviews LeMatiq

So it's time for our first interview here at Purps Place, and for our first one we interviewed Dancer/Choreographer/Producer/Poet LeMatiq out of Chicago.

DJ Purp: So tell everyone a little bit about yourself
LeMatiq:Hello everyone, I'm Lematiq (La-maa-tick). I am a dancer, a music producer, & a poet - I love creating! Hip-hop, Pop, R&B, & Gospel Rap is what I mostly produce music for.

DJ Purp: How old are you and where are you from?
LeMatiq: I just turned 25 on November 6th, 2010..I was born in Chicago, Illinois & raised in Pasadena, California

DJ Purp: How did you get your start in Dancing as well as Music?
LeMatiq: Well, I've been dancing since I was able to walk lol, but i never took it seriously until I started doing music seriously (around 2003). It was always just something i loved to do. I didn't realize how powerful, effective & universal dance is until later on in my life. I started performing dance officially in my church as a hip-hop praise dancer. That's when I got revelation that dance can send a message just as much as lyrics & music! I've always into music also, but didn't really turn the "hobby" into a desired career until I graduated high school in 2003. I used to emulate tracks by beat-boxing all the time & my parents always played music & i always loved listening, singing along & dancing to it. In high school i started writing poetry prolifically, & I used to carry special markers/pens to beat on desks & walls making "percussive" live beats LOL..my peers would rap freestyle & dance around, it was fun! After I got out of high school I got my first drum machines & later on a computer that was given to me, & that's when I started making beats; chopping samples & downloading whatever sounds i could get free, & just piece stuff together. And I've always loved the raw, dirty-sounding, melodic, smooth & groovy type of beats/music.

DJ Purp:  Do you have any projects in the works?
LeMatiq: At the moment I am currently working on a Christian Rap mixtape & album with one of my proteges (Yung Inspiration or Y.I.) I am making beats for selling online & creating some tracks for specific people that I've networked with online. I do my own rap & dance songs every once in while (whenever God gives me something) but I keep those to the side; I'm not trying to come out as a rapping dancer (at least not now). On the dancing/choreography side, I'm looking to throw a big dance concert in tribute, to the late Michael Jackson, sometime around the summer of 2012, & I'm gathering ideas, resources, & finances for that..& eventually I wanna get into making short videos with positive messages that incorporating dance & other artistic expressions.

DJ Purp:  Where can our viewers check you out and contact you?
LeMatiq: They can check me out on my official website - Lematiq.com. And that site has links to all of my social network pages (FaceBook, YouTube, etc.) & my cell phone is 626-487-3757

DJ Purp:  Do you have any advice for any dancers looking to get started and get their foot in the door?
LeMatiq: Um...its kind of hard to say since I incorporate dance into other things that I do & have a different approach. I don't mind dancing background in videos & movies or choreographing routines for others & , you know, your typical dance gig stuff lol...but I treat my dancing like a singer or rapper treats their music, I wanna expose it, get it out there..Just like they wanna be heard, I wanna be seen! I would say perform as much as you can - even for events that you think might be insignificant (you never know who may be watching you). If you're a dancer who can choreograph, have routines ready that you can teach or perform. Um..if you can try to incorporate something different into your dance presentation, like..mix it with poetry or do real videos, or something besides just dancing a routine to the newest hot song on YouTube, that's what i try to do. And network, tell everybody what you do & what you're trying to do. Make yourself some business cards that you can hand out when you meet people &/or perform, & this may be cliche, but always stay positive!

DJ Purp: Also do you have any advice for any Producers out there?
LeMatiq: I can't really say much yet, but I will say: Always try to learn more, whether it's technical techniques, different things you can do with your software, different types of music, etc. Always try to keep music in your ear, (if you don't) & pay attention to the music in everything (like music in a commercial, music playing in a restaurant, background music, everything!) That's how you see how music is used in different settings or occasions & you can get ideas from other types of music other than what you compose. Always network & find who needs music for something (artists, other producers, companies, etc.) Keep in mind that your production doesn't always have to be used on a song or someone's album/mixtape; music is an artistic backbone that's used in everything (movies, commercials, presentations, short films & documentaries, slide-shows, video games, websites, TV shows, spoken-word performances, phone apps, etc.) Try to make the best music possible!

DJ Purp: Do you have anything else you would like to say to the viewers out there?
LeMatiq: I just wanna say God bless everybody, God is Love, & always remained focused on your purpose & goals...speak & think positive, because death & life are in the power of your tongue (Holy Bible - Proverbs 18:21) & whatever a man thinks he is in his heart, that's what he is (Holy Bible - Proverbs 23:7)!

DJ Purp: Last but not least, I have to ask this lol, What do you think of Purp's Place?
LeMatiq: I think it's great & it will only become greater ;^)

Last month, Gucci was reported to have checked into a drug rehabilitation center located in Georgia.
Turns out Narcotics Anonymous isn't so anonymous after all. An NA attendee tells OZONE that their regularly scheduled meeting last night was interrupted by a nearly hour-long standoff outside the facility at Riverwoods Psychiatric Center in Riverdale, GA (on the south side of Atlanta). Reportedly, members of Gucci Mane's entourage - including his manager and lawyer - pleaded with the rapper to get help, causing quite a scene outside the hospital. His lawyer constantly reminded him that rehabilitation was the only alternative to facing more jail time and ultimately Gucci relented, turning himself in for a 28-day program around 8 PM on October 14th. In November 2009, Gucci Mane was sent to jail for violating his probation before eventually getting released last May.
Mane has been sent back to Fulton County Jail in Atlanta for probation violation. Sources close to the Atlanta rapper say Gucci attended a court hearing earlier today to determine whether or not he'd have to serve time for an unspecified infraction that violated the conditions of his probation. He was sentenced to 12 months, but could end up serving only six with good behavior. This doesn't mark the first time Gucci violates his probation. The rapper was sent to the same jail for only completing 25 out of a required 600 hours of community service in relation to a prior assault charge. (BET)
